Wild Asparagus
Back by popular demand! Since 1984, Wild Asparagus has been redefining
contra dance music by introducing world rhythms and themes into a
traditional setting. Rarely has a group of musicians worked so hard and
long to develop a specific sound that many have tried to copy but none have succeeded.
Ann Percival on piano and guitar, David Cantieni on wood winds, George Marshall on concertina,
Becky Tracy on fiddle, and Mark Murphy on bass. They weave together a glorious,
moving mix of rhythm and melody that is beyond comparison. From the heart of
Western Massachusetts, Wild Asparagus continues to amaze! www.wildasparagus.com
Bare Necessities
Like Wild Asparagus, Bare Necessities has redefined the manner in which
music is played - in this case, English country. It doesn't matter whether
or not you are a fan of English country, dancing to the music of Bare Necessities is
sheer joy. "The violins and violas of Mary Lea and Earl Gaddis, the
flutes and whistles of Peter Barnes, and the piano of Jacqueline Schwab all
interweave with a complexity and emotion seldom matched by any other traditional band.
It's a folk-baroque sound of unique beauty and grace." - The Folk Almanac.
Originally from New England, Bare Necessities members have begun to scatter across the
country, making appearances like this more and more rare. You don't want to miss this
hard-to-get group.
Singing
Also joining us this week is Mel Luedders of Spokane. Tired of dancing?
Mel - always popular at Lady of the Lake - will lead a workshop in singing.
She draws on the world for inspiring songs.
Sound
Ken Glastre from Spokane joins us again to provide the finest in sound.
He's promised an evening of late night swing, too!
