June Week

The Lizards, a New England based dance band, features a trio of musicians fervent with the desire and talent to ignite flames under dancing feet.  With a wide ranging and hopelessly eclectic repertoire including everything from Irish and Scottish traditional jigs and reels to Balkan, blues and swing tunes, the LDL bring excellent musicianship, playfulness, drama and unrelentingly infectious rhythm to their dance performances.  With Peter Barnes on piano, guitar and flute, Bill Tomczak on clarinet, sax and drum and Dave Langford on guitar and fiddle, they blend swing, rock-and-roll and jazz influences with traditional foot-stomping dance music to make an innovative, spontaneous and rhythmically inflammatory sound.  The dancing, as well as the workshops, will be delightful.

Night Owl, a Portland based trio, always a draw on the Pacific NW dance floor, features Betsy Branch and George Penk on twin fiddles and creative pianist Mark Douglass. Mark will provide a deep and agile rhythm section with jazz influences.  George Penk can also be heard with Jigsaw and on A Portland Selection.  Betsy plays with Wild Hair and is a leader in the Portland Megaband.  She is a fiddler and singing teacher, and, like George, a continual mentor in the music community, promising some great music workshops.  Both fiddlers interlace energetic, inventive playing with driving, rhythmic chording, unison melody and delicate harmony lines.  The trio propels the dancers with their tight sound, sometimes feisty and grooved, sometimes graceful and ethereal.

Music and Dance Week - June 20 - 26, 2010

Back by popular demand, these twins are the pied pipers of fun, enjoyment and playfulness and the fearless leaders of the community gathering, as well as, dynamite musicians.  Check out their website and you will see what I mean.  They will be playing for swing dancing and teaching a swing fiddle and guitar workshop.  There will be square dancing too to these multi-talented old timey musicians.
