June Week

Elixir is a high energy dance band and caller combination that blends superb calling, driving fiddle and guitar playing with the rich texture and rhythmic excitement of a full horn section. Elixir performs tightly crafted music drawing on a wide range of styles and evoking a variety of moods. Elegant melodies evolve into raucous dixieland horn riffs. Transcendent harmonies, playful improvisations, and rock, swing and reggae-inspired rhythms weave in and out of traditional and original Irish, French Canadian and New England tunes.

Dr. Groove will knock your socks off!  Out in front are two phenomenal improvisers, Nat Hewitt on fiddle and lead guitar and TJ Johnson on mandolin.  Nat Hewitt is known for his energetic and innovative approach to traditional and contemporary New England dance music.  TJ Johnson, with his irreverent style and high energy, is notorious for inspiring dancers and musicians alike.  Cooking up the rhythm is the incomparable Seth Houston on keyboard and rhythm guitar. Grab a partner, tie your dancing shoes on tight and get ready to experience new heights of contra dance ecstasy with Dr. Groove!

Back by popular demand, these twins are the pied pipers of fun, enjoyment and playfulness and the fearless leaders of the community gathering, as well as dynamite musicians.  Check out their website and you will see what I mean.  They will be playing for swing dancing and teaching a swing fiddle and guitar workshop.  There will be square dancing too, to these multi-talented old-timey musicians.

Seth Tepfer

Back by popular demand, Seth has been a regular at Lady of the Lake because he has such lively, positive energy that you just can’t help but have a good time when he’s calling. Seth is known as “Atlanta’s Dance Magician” with his endless array of squares, contras and English Country Dancing.   A vibrant energy on the dance floor when he is not dancing, he builds a joy of community not to be missed.  His clear, concise teaching allows you to easily flow into learning a dance.  And Seth teaching Dutch Crossings is a treat!

The Canotes

On the scenic shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene in northern Idaho, lies the ideal location for the  Lady of the Lake Music and Dance camp, held June 24-30, 2012.  Come join us at camp N-Sid-Sen, an idyllic 257 acres of tall pine and fir forest.  There is nearly a mile of lake shore, hiking trails, boats and beach.  The camp has a beautiful new dance hall, multiple workshop sites, clean, tidy cabins, delicious food and more.

Great fun awaits!!  The day is filled with 2 contra dances, a square dance, an English Country dance and a swing workshop.  And then for musicians (or wanna be musicians) there are 2 band workshops, 1 individual instrument workshop, swing guitar & fiddle and even a uke and harmonica workshop.  And then, of course, there is singing, a contra callers workshop, swimming and napping.  The evening contra dance will have a few squares and an occasional ECD with late night swing dancing 2-3 nights.

Twelve cedar cabins sleep 6 to 12 people each. All have bunk beds with mattresses provided.  Camping is available for those who prefer.  Please let us know ahead of time because cabin assignments are prearranged.

Balanced meals include dairy products, meat and fish.  Meatless alternatives and/or dairy free and/or gluten free are provided for those who specify these preferences at the time of registration.  No other food needs or severe allergies will be accommodated.  There is some refrigerator space available if you need to bring your own food.
